Cultivating the Next Generation of Leaders

Launched in 2024, LEAD BVI (Learning, Earning, & Advancing Dreams) is YEP’s teen workforce development program, providing young people ages 15-18 with the soft skills, mentorship, and paid internships essential to real-world success.  

Modeled after a successful initiative pioneered by the Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County, NJ (BGCM), LEAD BVI has been adapted to meet BVI needs, focusing first on the Hospitality Industry and now including other prominent industries such as Construction, Tourism, Healthcare, Law, Real Estate, Marketing, and IT. 

Our mission is simple: to empower BVI youth with the critical soft skills, leadership abilities, and practical experience they need to thrive in the modern economy.

A Uniquely Effective Model of Teen Workforce Development

High school students are invited to participate in LEAD BVI, based on expressed interest and a randomized selection process to ensure impartiality.  Over an 8-12-month period, students engage in a dynamic program that includes:

  • Professional Development: Interactive training in essential soft skills for the workplace, such as time management, organizational skills, effective communication, and conflict resolution.
  • Hands-on Work Experience: Paid internships during holidays and summer at local resorts, restaurants, the airport, and local industries.
  • Mentorship & Networking: Field trips to meet local industry leaders and a strategic partnership with HireBVI for resume coaching and professional video introductions.

As participants, parents, and partners have indicated in surveys and feedback, results to date are very promising:

  • Students attend training, internships, and trips with a very open attitude and are excited to learn and participate. 
  • Personal growth has been seen and noted in all LEADers.
